beautiful home rife with history, the Torre Sangiovanni rises within the town walls of Collevalenza castle, the beloved land of Mother Speranza, founder of the Amore Misericordioso Sanctuary. The ancient construction, built in the 1200’s as a watch tower, was for many years the theatre of furious battles between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines of Todi, and, starting in the year 1272 until the 1500’s, continued to be the object of contention between the warring parties. The castle itself was often attacked, gutted and burned in fierce battles.
hen not in the throws of discord, however, Collevalenza and its castle were considered one of the best places to go to for rest and relaxation: on its slopes, where the road to Terni now passes, was the great Pugliano wood, a veritable paradise for migrant bird hunters. In 1409 Muzio Attendolo Sforza celebrated his wedding there with a sumptuous celebration, taking Antonia Salimbeni, the widow of Francesco Casale, patron of Cortona and Chiusi, as his wife.
orre Sangiovanni was built into and encompasses a large part of the castle walls, the ancient tower, the granaries and secret rooms, and gives onto the centuries old castle park.
The magic and the enchantment of that era can still be felt here, thanks in great part to the care and passion lavished on it by Rosary Pecoraro, your host.
Rosary has been personally, and expertly, involved in each day to day detail of the recent restoration and reconstruction of the Torre.
The family antiques, the Persian carpets, the refined upholstery and the warm inviting colours, added to the comforts of modern living, create a very special ambience. The warm embrace it offers is an invitation to the tranquillity of an ancient home.
